QPC has published many podcasts and technical articles on how to use Trend Micro products as part of a comprehensive defense-in-depth and cyber security kill chain strategy. These techniques are directly applicable to every organzation from 1 to 5000 endpoints.

Our Insight

QPC currently manages about 5000 endpoints with a combination of Trend Micro products. When employed together, Trend Micro products can secure the endpoint, web content filtering, mobile devices, servers, and cloud hosted solutions such as Office 365 and Google Apps for Work or School.

Trend Micro has a wonderful package for most small to medium sized organizations called Trend Worry-Free Business Security Services Advanced. It is a package that consists of Hosted Email Security, Worry-Free Business Security Services, and Trend Cloud App Security. When these are properly employed, they can protect the endpoints, email vectors, as well as all of Office 365, DropBox for Business, or Google Apps for Work/School. This package is very affordably priced and is an absolute must for anyone using Office 365, DropBox for Business, or Google Apps for Work/School.

WatchGuard is a maker of world class perimeter security appliances whose software, support, and solution set make Fireboxes the clear long-term winner in that market.

Our Experience

QPC's team includes two WatchGuard certified engineers, with one of them holding 8 WatchGuard certifications, 10 years of experience with the appliances, and is considered by industry experts to be in the top three WatchGuard security architects in the Midwest. QPC has consistently innovated in security strategy and devised ways to maximize the value that clients derive from their Fireboxes. QPC's methods push UTM security to each subnet of a network protecting classes of devices from others. While the concept of an open internal network has been dead since 2000 in the security expert realm, countless networks still use this failed strategy. Examples of those failures can be seen in all of the subnet traversal breaches that occur such as Home Depot, Target, and TJ Maxx.

Our Insight

Consistently in independent lab tests, only two perimeter security appliances are listed as adequately effective. Therefore, if your network is protected by any of the other products on the market, what is the point? If your security solution is not adequately effective, then the price of the solution does not really matter. Statistics for perimeter security appliance performance are published, but only one number really matters with regards to performance. That is the UTM throughput figure assuming that DPI is actually enabled properly. What the test results show is that most of the devices on the market choke when a reasonable level of security is enabled. That puts the device owner in the position of choosing performance over security when both are achievable with a properly selected Firebox. Fireboxes consistently outperform comparable perimeter security appliances when the full security suite is enabled with UTM and DPI.
